APEX Sunday Academy

What is the Reno APEX Sunday Academy Program?   Our popular APEX Sunday Academy is the preeminent training program in the Reno/Sparks area and an integral part of our Club’s player development program.   This club-wide training program mimic’s our club methodology and playing principles.

Our new and improved curriculum, focuses on developing skill (technique combined with decision making).  Training is planned out in 4 week micro-cycles to coincide and compliment our team training cycles.

APEX Sunday Academy training consists of:

  • Magic Moves – Individual dribbling moves and technique.
  • Non-directional possession activities.
  • Directional possession activities.
  • 3v3 and 4v4 small sided games.
Each of the elements include an emphasis on an Attacking Principle and a Defending Principle.
  • Our training methodology for birth year 2015 and older is Whole-Part-Whole.
  • Our training methodology for the 2016’s and younger is Play-Practice-Play under the auspice of US Soccer Grassroots Lesson Plans.
APEX Sunday Academy adopts the overall US Soccer Grassroots Player Development Philosophy that “children learn and develop to their full potential through game-like experiences in an enjoyable environment that supports individual growth”.

APEX Sunday Academy is available to every Reno APEX Soccer Club player at no additional cost (included in Club Fees).

APEX Program is open to all Reno APEX players

When joining our soccer club, players are placed on a Reno APEX team that competes in league (usually GBYSL or NorCal Premier).  League games are played primarily on weekends and the teams practice weekday evenings.  Players are encouraged to attend our Sunday APEX sessions run by our Coaching Staff and Directors.

Club-wide APEX Training Sessions are usually 9:00 am to 10:00am on Sundays.  Typically 3 to 4 Sundays during the Fall, Winter and Spring months.  Our primary location is Moana Soccer Complex (240 W. Moana), however it is also held at South Valleys (South Reno), or Golden Eagle (Spanish Springs) fields on occasion.  During winter months when grass fields are closed, our APEX training sessions will move to the SWIFT Sportsdome in South Meadows (Reno).

Frequently Asked Questions:

My son/daughter plays on a team in Great Basin Youth Soccer League (GBYSL), AYSO or Northern Nevada Soccer League (NNSL) and would like to do the training.  Can I sign them up?

Yes, provided they are playing on a recreational team and not registered with a club or a competitive team.  If you want them stay on that team and train with us, you will want to register for the APEX Sunday-Only Training button above. If you are ready to move them to one of our club teams, we can take registrations as soon as the recreational season has finished.

My son/daughter has some friends that might be interested in APEX training.  Can we bring them along?

Yes, no problem.  We are happy to have guests join us and do a trial session to see if they like it.  We do ask that everyone interested completed a sign-up online and we will follow up with an invitation to join us.

I’m a coach of a recreational team.  Can I bring my whole team for APEX Training?

Yes.  Each player will need to sign up individually, but your entire team can do the training program.  We encourage coaches to learn the curriculum so they can assist and participate as well.  We also welcome recreational coaches who want to move their teams into the club in between seasons, so we can provide a higher level of support and training for both the players and the coach.

Not Sure?
